Summer Camps
The Marylhurst School offers great camps throughout the summer for excitment and exploration. Programs for older kids too – up to age 8! All programs are held at the Barclay School in Oregon City and taught by The Marylhurst School teachers.

Descriptions
Drama Daze
- June 27-30. 9am-1pm. Ages: Entering Kindergarten – 8 yrs

Dazzle, dreams and drama, just right for the story teller in your life. Have a story that you love to tell? Bring it to life on the stage! Craft a script, design costumes, build props, and then … lights, camera, and action! Learn stage movement through drama games that build to a final performance. Get your tickets now, one show only on June 30. Each day will include making a “dramatic” snack and art that supports the stage craft. Bravo!
Potions and Explosions

Celebrate the fourth of July with an explosive week of summer school! Here is your chance to concoct potions and develop secret formulas that surprise your friends and family. There will be plenty of opportunities to move things around using chemical reactions. Stir up something magical!
Spy Camp

Live the life of a spy for a week. Learn the fine art of disguise, how to write and crack a secret code, and espionage. Are there spies among us? There will be many action packed missions to hone your new skills.
Let’s Climb a Tree!

Trees are a vital part of life on earth. Our TREE HOMES camp is designed to familiarize children with trees and their importance to the survival of many animals. Observations of real trees, combined with dramas and role-playing, deepens a child’s appreciation for trees and the animals that live and raise families in tree homes.
Geocaching: High Tech Adventure

Piracy on the high seas, guided by satellites? Learn about the latest treasure-hunting scheme – geocaching! Use a GPS to find hidden treasure; it’s all around you. Oregon City is the initial site of geocaching – the mother lode! We’ll find hidden sites around the neighborhood, make our own geocache (and spy on people who discover it), design maps, and have adventures and learn about the gadgets of modern pirates.
Lady Bug, Lady Bug, Don’t Fly Away!

Lady bug, lady bug your home is in my garden! I want you to stay with your eggs and your babies, this bright sunny day. Stay in my garden, where we can play! We will have great fun together as we take a closer look at ladybugs and some of their smallest creature friends. We will explore the garden, meadow, and nearby pond and take a walk into the woods and see what might be hiding.
Hidden Spaces

Have you ever wandered by a small opening and wondered what was inside? Spend this week exploring hidden nooks and crannies, places that have kept their secrets – up until now. Create your own hidden space and decorate it with fond treasures. Use the art of photography and watercolor to document your journey and then create a book that tells the story. We will also hop on the trolley to explore the hidden spaces of animals along the edges of the river and the banks of a pond. Come and joins us as we tuck away. Can you find us?
Water, Water, Everywhere

Who lives in water?? Who lives in the clouds?? Who lives in ice?? Let’s take a closer look at the ways water exists in our world. This week we will be taking trips to the Oregon City water fall and the local river and pond. We will be exploring all matters of water. Bring your bathing suit. SPLISH SPLASH!
Native American Survival Week
- August 1 – 4. 9am-1pm. Ages: Entering Kindergarten – 8 yrs

Learn to walk quietly through the woods and surprise your prey. Craft tools that will allow you to hunt and gather. Prepare a meal and share it with friends inside a shelter you have created. Learn games that the Native people used to entertain themselves and each other. Explore Native art forms, from basket weaving to mask making, which will introduce us to local traditions. We will also get out and investigate local areas that were historically important, and continue to be so today, to the people who were here first.
Fort Building
- August 8-11. 9am-1pm. Ages: Entering Kindergarten – 8 yrs

This class is right in step with old Oregon City. Lear the basics of Fort Building and a bit of survival as well. We will explore a variety of structures, from a waddle and a teepee to a lean-to, as a small city arises in the Meadow. We will use real tools, both people powered and electric, and naturally found materials. As a camper once asked, “Are we trying to survive?” Yes!
Survival Camp
- August 15 – 18 . 9am-1pm. Monday thru Thursday with a camp out on Thursday Night! Ages: Entering Kindergarten – 8 yrs

Put your modern skills to the test. This is a chance for your child to learn the basics of camping. Build a campfire, assemble a survival kit, pitch a tent, learn basic first aid skills, play camp games and more! On Thursday, camp will run the regular hours from 9-1, and then campers and their families will return that evening to enjoy a potluck meal, a swim or wade in the river, a marshmallow roast, and a night sleeping under the stars. The next morning all will enjoy breakfast together and break camp, parting with a lot of great memories.
